Hooray Seafood Restaurant - Ipoh, Malaysia

The family in Ipoh had only positive things to say about this restaurant. So I was excited to give it a try.

The place was situated at the corner of a strip mall just a bit outside of Ipoh. The big door looked impressive and the lantern and red color combination made the whole place looked very festive.

We were greeted like old friends when we walked in and seated immediately. I guess the other family member has been regular there. Later on we found out that they used to visit that restaurant pretty often. No wonder.

I took a glimpse at the menu which looked pretty impressive but I let the other family member did the ordering. I'm curious with what they have raved on. I also had been eyeing other tables as we walked passed. 😉 Curious about what others have ordered.

Soon plates and plates of our orders started arriving. We sat pretty close to the kitchen so I had an unobstructed view of the staff working and was mesmerized by the way the staffs moved around so smoothly. This restaurant had flow.

Now let's take a taste of the food. I didn't know any of the name of the dishes. There's a pork dish with pickled red onion on top. The pork was thinly sliced, fried and covered with sticky sweet sauce. I thought the dish was okay though the pickle red onion was definitely different.

There were pork ribs with brown sauce. The ribs were tender but not all of the pieces were ribs some was just meat. The tofu dish was quite interesting. It's a whole soft tofu deep fried into golden color. That portion reminded me of agedashi tofu. But then the topping took a twist. Part of it looked like garlic but didn't taste like garlic. Perhaps green onion ? And there's taste of salty pickle radish as well.

The salmon skin dish was popular among my family members. It's crispy with a slight taste of sweet and salty. Perfect for drinking buddies. The last dish was a crispy fried chicken on a bed of sweet sauce with cream. I thought the sauce and cream were unnecessary as the chicken by itself was already tasty.
